It’s a relatively light start to June on the heels of Boston Calling and with the cancellation of Saturday’s Aretha Franklin concert at the Wang. But start with some Friday options. The Scottish pop group the Trashcan Sinatras harmonize at Somerville’s Once Ballroom (which was recently burglarized if you want to help an independent music venue get back on track). Jazz pianist Yoko Miwa leads her trio at the Regattabar, while popular trumpeter Chris Botti brings his group to the Chevalier Theatre in Medford. Guitar fans can choose between former Bob Dylan and Simon & Garfunkel sideman Arlen Roth (with the Gravel Pit’s Jed Parish in his band) at the Burren Backroom Series in Davis Square or LA studio ace Lee Ritenour at Rockport’s Shalin Liu Performance Center.

Saturday also brings folk-blues legend Taj Mahal (pictured) to the Cabot in Beverly with his trio and new-wave rockers the B-52’s to the Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom. Then psych-rockers Black Moth Super Rainbow light up the Brighton Music Hall on Sunday, which also brings the cool bluesy pairing of Ben Harper and harmonica veteran Charlie Musselwhite to the Sinclair for the first of two nights.
