This revival of George C. Wolfe’s celebrated 1986 satire generated buzz long before the curtains opened. With acclaimed actor/director Billy Porter at its helm (fresh off a Tony-winning run in Broadway’s Kinky Boots), it lived up to the hype, as Porter’s keen directorial eye guided a mega-talented ensemble cast—Nathan Lee Graham, Capathia Jenkins, Shayna Small, Rema Webb and Ken Robinson—through a potentially tricky work centered on 11 distinct “exhibits.” Almost three decades on, the themes of racism and black identity still resonate, perhaps now more than ever.
