2016 Winner: Mindfulness at the Museum

Museums have always been ideal places for contemplation, but that’s especially true thanks to new programming. Take the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum’s Sanctuary Series, whose workshops have included a nearly silent tour of the galleries, a “Slow Looking” session focused on a single work and a guided meditation followed by art making. Meanwhile, the Peabody Essex Museum hosted spring yoga classes inside Anila Quayyum Agha’s installation Intersections, and the Museum of Fine Arts hosted Namaste Saturdays, bringing local yogis to the sunlit Shapiro Courtyard, plus a Mindfulness in the Galleries program with best-selling author Susan M. Pollak. With fresh eyes and a calm mind, the art looks even better.
