The 6-foot-3 Harvard forward became the third straight Boston athlete to win the Hobey Baker Award, given to the country’s best college hockey player. After finishing second in the voting in 2015, Vesey won the award this year by notching 24 goals in 33 games and helping Harvard reach the NCAA tournament for the second straight year. The 23-year-old North Reading native says he will exercise a little-used rule to gain free agency this August. With the Boston Bruins one likely suitor, fans are hoping he doesn’t stray too far from home.
