More than 23,000 night owls flocked to the Museum of Fine Arts this fall for four free, all-night parties thrown as part of a seasonlong celebration of contemporary art. The first-come, first-served events drew lines, but waiting crowds warmed up with cocoa dispensed by one of the artist/educator hosts. The wait was well worth it: While the rest of the city slept, the museum hummed with DJs, artist demos, lectures, pop-up performance art, film screenings, live painting and duct-tape mural making, Drawing After Dark sessions and chances to check out exhibits like a survey of LA artist Frances Stark’s 25-year career. If you snoozed through it all, fear not—the MFA is launching a new late-night signature series in October.
