2017 Winner: Mike's City Diner

This South End institution cooks everything from scratch, and boy, does it show: the drip coffee perfect, the home fries really fine, corned beef and turkey hashes clearly housemade (and superb), pancakes big and fluffy, the Thanksgiving sandwich a homey wonder. (OK, that side of buttered grits seems spirited in from the Carolinas, but roll with it.) In a city where most greasy spoons take their food off a Sysco truck, Mike’s is diner nirvana.
