It takes more than impressive credentials to stand out in a city with many great wine professionals, but two Culinary Institute of America degrees and a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence can’t hurt, right? Professional cooking experience is an asset, too, when much of the job is matching wines to food. Another essential quality is radiating a gentle empathy that makes less-experienced wine drinkers feel comfortable stepping out of their comfort zones. McCallan’s got all of those in spades.
