Smoky eye with sparkle

For winter festivities, make a traditional smoky eye festive with a dash of sparkle. You can tailor the look with a shade that will complement your own eye color.

(1) Cover the eyelid with a primer and then apply a layer of neutral eye shadow using an eye shadow brush. Add your colored shadow on the inner part of the lid. Next, apply a darker complementary shadow on the outer corner of the eye and along the crease.

(2) Line the lower lash line with an eye-brightening pencil. Use it to highlight under the brow and in the corner of the eye. Blend with a brush.

(3) Line the lower lash line with the colored eye shadow and black eyeliner. Trace silver glitter eyeliner along the lower lashes and inner corner of the eye. Use a brush to dust loose glitter on the lid.

(4) Apply liquid liner to the top and lower lash lines. Add another layer of dark eye shadow on the outer corners of eyes. Miguel recommends building the look as you go, revisiting areas to apply additional layers. Finish with mascara.

Glitter eyeliner

To start 2013 off with a bang, go for a bold statement. With this glitter lining your under eye, you might just find yourself beneath some mistletoe.

(1) Start with a primer and nude eye shadow base. Apply a deeper complementary color in the crease for definition.

(2) Trace the upper lash line with gel liner. Use this as a guide and then retrace with a liquid liner. Apply more shadow in the crease. Then, highlight under the brow and corner of the eye.

(3) Add a coat of mascara. Apply glitter liner on lower lash line. Let the liner completely dry before added another layer. Repeat for added sparkle, and keep eyes open during application.

(4) Tavi suggests lifting the upper lid to apply more eyeliner under the waterline. Complete the look by contouring the face to frame the eyes so that they are the focus.

White Glitter

Ring in the New Year with this subtler look that still has plenty of shimmer. The white opens your eye, making you seem fresh and well-rested even well after the clock strikes twelve.

 (1) After applying a primer, cover the entire eyelid, including above the crease, with a light shimmery eye shadow. Apply a slightly darker shade of eye shadow on the lower part of the lid. Line the lower lash line with an eye-brightening pencil. Line the top and bottom lash lines with gel eyeliner. Layer liquid liner on top of the gel liner.

(2) Use tweezers to apply individual false lashes to the outside corners of the eye.

(3) Apply a white eye shadow in the corner of the eye and under the brow. Dab a small amount of eyelash glue in the inner corner of the inner. Using a brush, adhere loose glitter on top of glue.

(4) Add a coat of mascara. For a polished look, remember to clean under your eyes with another layer of foundation.
