More rejuvenating than a full day’s sleep in a coffin, the vampire-esque facelift at Nichole Brennan’s Skin Deep Medical Spa transforms sags and bags into bouncy, youthful skin. It’s also not nearly as scary as it sounds.
“It’s like fertilizer for your cells,” says Brennan. The in-office procedure uses Selphyl, an autologous method of plumping the skin, as opposed to something like Botox, which uses artificial fillers. First, Brennan draws your blood—sans fangs—then takes the platelets from it and reinjects them back into the “focus site,” which doesn’t necessarily mean the face. Clients are also having platelets sucked and pumped back into hands, necks and breasts (for those who have had implants). The side effects are minimal, with just occasional bruising and initial swelling. Administered in two increments set four weeks apart, the effects can last as long as 12 to 18 months.
As Boston’s sole vampiric facelifter, Brennan says the treatment is one of the most natural available. It may be blood-curdling, but you’re injecting fewer synthetic chemicals into your body. And while it doesn’t give you eternal, undead life, it definitely takes the years off.
