Coldplay

Coldplay just might be the biggest little band in the world.  When Chris Martin and company first hit the airwaves with melancholy power ballad “Yellow” off their 2000 debut, Parachutes, they were just a little  indie band who’d formed at uni. Fast-forward four years and the band was shuffling onstage at the Grammys to accept the golden megaphone for Record of the Year. But they’ve maintained a certain unassuming “aw shucks” likability, which makes their undeniable status as one of rock’s foremost arena bands seem surreal (refer to the band getting unceremoniously upstaged at their own headlining Super Bowl gig by Queen Bey). But mega-stars they are, and their just-released EP Kaleidoscope finds the band expanding their pop palette on collabs with the likes of Big Sean and the Chainsmokers. Catch ’em when they headline a little venue known as Gillette Stadium on Aug. 4.
