McMullen Museum of Art Fall Exhibitions

The McMullen Museum of Art at Boston College is breaking ground on its fall exhibitions with two looks at landscapes. First up, Nature’s Mirror: Reality and Symbol in Belgian Landscape chronologically traces the birth of the art form from the Middle Ages through the early 20th century with the help of professor Jeffrey Howe. He’ll be on hand for a walk through the Daley Family Gallery on Sept. 24 to chat about the 120 rarely seen works from the likes of Antwerp printmaker Hieronymus Cock, School of Tervuren realists and symbolist painter Léon Spilliaert (whose Trunks of Beech Trees in Spring, 1945 is seen above). Elsewhere, professor Alston Conley paints the Maine and Massachusetts skies with collage techniques a la Matisse. Dial into these landlines at the McMullen Museum, where Nature’s Mirror and New England Sky are on display through Dec. 10.  / Sarah Hagman
