Making its world premiere this month, Our Dear Dead Drug Lord is here to answer an age-old question: What happens when four bored teenagers break out the Ouija board and try to conjure the spirit of drug kingpin Pablo Escobar? Alexis Scheer—recognized as the Rising Theater Star in this year’s Boston’s Best awards—penned the play about girls at a crossroads between childhood and not-yet-adulthood as they wrestle with falling in love, experimenting with drugs and other adolescent struggles in a treehouse they played in as kids. Scheer’s raw work is already garnering spirited reviews, snagging finalist awards at the 2018 LTC Carnaval of New Latinx Work and the 2018 Bay Area Playwrights Festival.
