'Pink Flamingos' After Midnite at the Coolidge

Those infamously tacky (and Mass.-invented) plastic flamingos have nothing on the shocking sleaze of pink-trailer-living Babs Johnson in writer and director John Waters’ Pink Flamingos. Produced on a $10,000 budget, the 1972 film embodies what Waters called “good bad taste,” the kind of black comedy that earned “The Prince of Puke” an avid cult following. Through scenes shot in the Maryland woods, we follow Babs (played with mile-high eyebrows by drag queen Divine) and her family as they defend their honor from another clan vying for the title of “Filthiest People Alive.” Flock to the Coolidge Corner Theatre when it screens on Sept. 2 at midnight. Tickets $11.25.
