Last fall, local artists Baindu Conte-Coomber, Marianne Harkless Diabate and Mckersin Previlus aimed to bring together a sweeping range of performers skilled in African-rooted dance at the Racines Black Dance Festival. Kicking off with a live showcase by the visiting artists and staff at Roxbury Community College, the three-day extravaganza returns with performances and workshops at Boston Conservatory at Berklee. From Haitian folkloric to voguing, the workshops showcase a rich tapestry of traditional and contemporary styles. Lace up your dancing shoes for a locking seminar with Carl Alleyne—a movie choreographer who’s shared the stage with Gladys Knight—or let Yesenia Fernandez-Selier transport you to Havana for a primer on the Cuban rumba. Find your groove at the Racines Black Dance Festival on Oct. 19-21. / Natalie Gale
