'Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?'

“Boring old married couple” isn’t exactly a cliche that applies to the pair at the center of Edward Albee’s 1962 tragicomedy Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? Lyric Stage presents the classic play that follows George and Martha, whose long marriage is disintegrating around them—with increasingly dark results. Played by local theater veterans Steven Barkhimer and Paula Plum, the frustrated, embittered pair aren’t satisfied throwing acid-laced barbs at each other, luring a naive young couple into their marital mayhem. Lyric Stage vet Scott Edmiston directs all the drama when it hits home through Feb. 12.
