Brew Chews

South Shore sweet shop Hilliards Chocolates has a new treat brewing. The fourth-generation family business—currently helmed by husband-and-wife team Judy Hilliard and Charlie McCarthy—recently welcomed craft beer brittle to its repertoire of specialty chocolates and candies. Hilliards spices up a traditional peanut brittle recipe with a splash of IPA from Easton’s Shovel Town Brewery that’s combined with Spanish peanuts, sugar and butter before being hand-stirred while it cooks in a copper kettle. The newcomer’s available by the bag ($8) or by the box ($16) at the brand’s brick-and-mortar stores in Easton, Norwell and Mansfield and also online—so there’s plenty of chances to crack off some brittle while cracking open a cold one this winter.
