Sherry Baby

What’s in a name: This nod to Frankie Valli’s 1960s hit fits in with the diner vibe at Veggie Galaxy, where cocktail consultants Harmony Kelly and Meaghan Sinclair of Booze Époque have been busy revamping the beverage program.

Price: $9

Ingredients: FoMu vanilla ice cream, Mark’s Chai Spice MEM tea, Oloroso sherry, rice milk, sprinkled nutmeg.

Taste: Creamy, nutty, spicy eggnog.

Pair it with: Kelly would go for the stuffed French toast, Sinclair for the Central Square burger. Both agree on the cheese fries. (P.S.: The pair have just signed on for a cocktail and food pairing cookbook, slated for next year.)

Tell me more: Boozy milkshakes won’t be the only thing bringing lushes to the yard. Though the lack of a full liquor license was a challenge, Sinclair says, “We totally appreciate let’s-sit-down-and-have-a-beer atmosphere.” There’s an all-New England brew list, including some elevated options like a cayenne-rimmed michelada. The vino-inclined will find sangrias (one combines white wine with sake), and there’s even what the duo dubs a “mom” drink, a salute to an Aperol spritz or Americano that features Casoni 1814 liqueur and is totally “something a mom would drink on a patio.”

The Scene: Veggie Galaxy is quite literally raising the bar, as well as adding new seating and tables for a mini lounge atmosphere at the front of the diner. (Don’t worry: The hypnotizing rotating dessert display remains.) That bar area and the new drink menu will debut the second week of December. Can’t wait? Look for sneak peek drink specials during a soft launch that starts Nov. 30.
