Pete Stein is hoping that his new Inman Square bar, Wit’s End, will be a spot where people forget their phones and actually talk to each other, encouraging friendly debate with a showdown-style menu that pits items head-to-head, such as two versions of fries for guests to hash out their fave. The movie title-inspired offerings also feature standalones, including the Buffalo Bill Special, named for The Silence of the Lambs villain. There’s no debating that these potato skins with brisket, sharp cheddar and chipotle sour cream overflow with rich salty-sweet flavor, thanks to housemade bacon jam with maple syrup, apple cider vinegar and coffee. “It brings out a bold, robust flavor that’s a little bit surprising,” Stein says.
