Tired of the crammed, corporate feel of other gyms, Bill Najam strove to create a club atmosphere with his latest venture. Lynx Fitness Club, which opened earlier this month at the Park Plaza hotel, spans 19,155 square feet but caps its membership at 1,200. That means fewer sweaty people standing too close while waiting for the treadmill. “Our goal is to create a safe and cool environment where members can hang out, work out and have some fun,” co-founder/CEO Najam says of the space that boasts brick accent walls and hardwood floors. The workout wonderland includes fitness features such as an oversized turf area equipped with sleds, ropes and TRX bands, Peloton bikes for members to use during on-demand spin sessions and two group fitness studios for classes such as HIIT, boxing, yoga and barre. Lynx is also home to New England’s only Topgolf Swing Suite for virtual practice on courses around the world, with the option to play a round or take regular lessons with PGA professional Rob Hardy—so you can hit the links year-round.
