There’s a new cause for celebration, thanks to event planning and retail vets Eileen Sherman and Julie Pike, whose resume includes decorating multiple White House soirees. “I can’t give too many details,” says Pike, who met Sherman through a mutual friend who knew they had similar business ideas. But if it’s good enough for the Obamas, it should be a boon for South Boston, where the duo’s shop for party essentials, Fête Collection, debuted in March.
Open by appointment and during walk-in hours on Wednesday through Saturday, Fête is home to lines of paper goods that Bostonians won’t be able to track down elsewhere locally, including custom gift tags, napkins, coasters, notepads, envelopes, letterpress prints and greeting cards. But, says Pike, “I understand events beyond the scope of the paper.” So party planners will also find party frocks, accessories and home goods, a number of which come from local makers. (The pair packages goods with ribbon from Brookline’s Studio Carta and stocks Julie Aylward’s jewelry and hand-painted ceramics from Fort Point artist Jill Rosenwald.) The shop will also be hosting events, including a series geared toward wedding planning that will feature calligraphers, photographers, makeup artists and other nuptial pros. Mark your calendar for April 13’s Spring Soiree, where you can get tips on putting together an outfit for this season’s celebrations—it’s one event to which you’ll want to promptly RSVP.
