The best way to loosen the purse strings among The Friends of the Public Garden?
Lure them up to the rooftop of the Taj and ply them with food and drink at A Summer Party, which raised money for the group’s work on the Common, the Garden and the Comm. Ave. Mall.
Present and accounted for: the achingly lovely Marta Van Ranst and her adoring other half, Al, professional partygoer Ann Heimlicher, blond bombshell Ashley Breed, the hale and hearty Rob Rottenbucher, patrician beauty Paula Stookey and her handsome husband, Jeffrey, the stunning duo of Mimi Sun and Linda Fung, music man David Feltner, publishing pair David Jacobs and Gen Tracey, ice skating imp Collin Vail Sullivan, fashion avatar Leslee Shupe and her gorgeous muse, Sarah Mars, grand old man Henry Lee, and so on and so forth.
“I pipe up when I need to when it comes to protecting the piping plovers,” said one guest. “But then again, I grew up in Lincoln where there were traffic jams to let the salamanders cross the road.”
The evening’s funniest remark, though, came from the woman who warned a friend leaning in for a kiss: “Careful. These earrings have already cut someone’s jugular; I guarantee you’ll need a tetanus shot.”
