Always one of Boston’s most hotly anticipated events, Commonwealth Shakespeare Company’s annual gala, held at the Mandarin Oriental, has yet to disappoint.
The evening attracted the likes of co-chairs Ashley Wisneski and Will Heward, Ashley and Wes Karger, and his twin, Paul, with fiancee Melissa Donovan, the spectacular Priscilla Douglas, Persian beauty Parvine Fotouhi and her dashing other half, Mohammed, South End stud muffins Kurt Gress and Samuel Parkinson, legal eagle Dave Friedman, Finnish design avatar Anja Kola and her husband, Kier “Dr. Glad” McDonough, soon-to-be newlyweds Lily Poduska and Brian Flatley, the incomparable Kennedy Elsey, party pair Joanna and Bryan Flynn, fashionista Daniela Corte and her husband, Stuart Roseman, tall drink of water Onnie Mayshak and his gorgeous wife, Katie Greenberg, the toothsome twosome of Lianne and Alex Leventhal, blond Bond Girl Emma Callus, the startlingly gorgeous Rekha Sidhu and bearded hipster Muneesh Purwaha, and pretty much everyone who’s anyone among the cool kids in town.
Cocktails were followed by dinner, performances and a live auction, and the evening raised a record amount of money to mount free Shakespeare on Boston Common. As always, the photo booth was wildly popular, which turned out to be a good thing for those of us who had to scroll through the images the next morning to remember what had happened. But the evening’s highlight had to be when Sam Mazzarelli (aka my husband)—who hates being the center of attention more than anything—wound up being the winning bidder for a walk-on role in this summer’s production of Romeo and Juliet.
But the party was on April Fools’ Day, after all.
