Nantucket got a major infusion of Parisian chic when Chanel teamed up with the formidable Kay and Ashley Bernon to throw a fundraiser for Berkshire Hills Music Academy, which provides musical and life skills training to young adults with intellectual disabilities.
The cocktail party took place on the lawn of the Bernons’ stunning home overlooking Galley Beach, on what would have been Coco Chanel’s 133rd birthday. The free-flowing cocktails and baubles from Chanel’s fine jewelry collection made for a dangerous combo; as one guest put it, “What could go wrong when you put a cocktail in my hand and show me a diamond necklace?”
Among the soigné throng: the hostesses’ husbands, Peter and Paul, the school’s executive director, Michelle Theroux, Argentinean beauty Daniela Corte and her husband, Stuart Roseman, cupcake mogul Courtney Forrester and the dashing Michael, Chestnut Hillion Debbie Lewis, blond beauty Simone Winston, automotive mogul George Albrecht, Thurston Howell III lookalike Bob Crowe and his gorgeous daughter, Caitlin, force of nature Laura Baldini, the sparkling Pramy Yadav, philanthropic babes Kat VanDernoot and Penny Fireman, unfairly attractive couple Ryan and Christina Pierce, the magnificent Margaret McNeill, fashion imp Suhail Kwatra, Our Lady of Boucle Mary Nobile-King, lovable rake Michael Tilley and one man wearing bright-green go-to-hell pants, who joked, “I thought I was coming to the American Ireland Fund party.”
“I just came from the Vineyard,” observed another guest, “and the Obamas didn’t have as much security as these jewels.”
After perusing (and in some cases, purchasing) the baubles, guests were invited inside for a performance by two of the school’s amazingly talented students, and then everyone headed over to the Galley for a toes-in-the-sand dinner.
The evening’s funniest exchange: “So far, we are on our eighth case of Whispering Angel this summer.”
“You guys are amateurs.”
