Like the swallows on St. Joseph’s Day at San Juan Capistrano, Boston’s power chicks returning from their summer haunts gathered for From Fenway to the Runway, the luncheon and fashion show starring the Red Sox wives, held at the Hotel Commonwealth and proudly sponsored by The Improper Bostonian.
A benefit for the Red Sox Foundation, the inaugural Ladies Who Lunch gathering of the season had pretty much perfect attendance, in no small part because the afternoon honored local treasure Tiffany Ortiz. Present and accounted for: first lady of Red Sox Nation Linda Pizzuti Henry and her sisters, Laura Pizzuti-Gamache and Tina Pizzuti Brzezenski, gorgeous Hollywood transplant Eliza Dushku, fashion plate Tonya Chen Mezrich, emerging superpower Emily Kumler Kaplan, fashionista Remy Schaefer Stressenger, the dizzyingly beautiful Maggie Gold Seelig, dining doyenne Kathy Sidell, silver fox Bryan Rafanelli, the flawless Julie Hume Gordon, yummy mummy Amy Belkin, the luminous Luba Azevedo, retail deity Matt Dunphy, delightful do-gooder Saskia Epstein, the retina-burningly beautiful Sara Underwood, philanthropic powerhouse Patty Ribakoff, Chestnut Hill chatelaine Nancy Adams, smoking-hot emcee Liz Brunner, red-hot mama Julie Joyal, Big Papi David Ortiz, assorted other athletes and a woman who responded to a compliment on her dress by saying, “My house is under construction and I can’t find anything, so it was the perfect excuse to go to Bergdorf’s.”
The fashions by Bloomingdale’s had everyone salivating, as did the gazpacho and scallops, while the auction raised shovelfuls of shekels. Meanwhile, the afternoon’s best comment went to the woman who said, “Don’t you dare judge me for drinking at lunch. I need pinot grigio to deal with the end of rosé season.”
