That might sound like the start of a bad joke, but it was only one of the highlights of Horsing Around at the Ritz—a black-tie blowout to raise money for Bina Farm’s adaptive riding and other programs.
Bringing a whole new meaning to the term “special guests,” the evening managed to wow even the most jaded of gala-goers, and this crowd was anything but junior varsity. Among them: The charity’s founders, Coryn and Babak Bina with their camera-ready sons Kamran and Aidan, Pops conductor Keith Lockhart and his knockout wife, Emiley, Persian beauty Maryam Rahmani, car czarina Melissa Steffy, alternative energy guru Jim Gordon and his lovely other half, Denise Fahmie, S’Wellesley denizens Harris and Paul Krupp and Liz and Mike Fish, latter-day Fanny Brice Lorna Brunelle, and so on and so forth.
The evening began with cocktails and schmoozing and continued with dinner and some highly amusing on-stage shenanigans, but the undisputed highlight was a performance by Carly Simon, accompanied by her offspring, Sally and Ben Taylor, his bride-to-be, Sophie Hiller, and tween angels Paris Noble and Lillian Ellmore.
The best exchange: “I love your dress.”
“Thanks. I couldn’t tell if it was too Golden Girls-meets-depressing Christmas Eve at a nursing home.” ◆
