The Friends of the Italian Cultural Center of Boston got a sneak peek at the new Eataly Boston a week before it opened at their annual fundraiser, Italianissimo!
Along with bragging rights came a feast that would have made any Sicilian nonna proud, with a selection of delicious dishes and gourmet goodies that had more than one guest loosening his belt a notch or two. Present and accounted for: honorees Federico Cortese of the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras and MIT genius Silvio Micali, real estate developer Tony Pangaro, his legal eagle wife, Creelea, Italian Consul General Nicola De Santis and his physician wife, Lisa, the unsinkable Jan Saragoni, honorary Italian Emily Rooney, former first lady Angela Menino and her daughter, Susan Fenton, board member Lucille Spagnuolo, restaurateur extraordinaire Joe Milano of the Union Oyster House, A.R.T. dramaturge Ryan McKittrick, smoldering Venetian Franco Potepan and one woman who urged her husband, “Basta with the pasta.”
The evening’s funniest remark came from the woman who said, “What did I know back then? I didn’t think you could get pregnant if the television was on…and the other person was asleep.”
