In the beginning, “High Hopes” was an Oscar-winning song whose lyricist, Sammy Cahn, was a patient at the Joslin Diabetes Center. Upon his death in 1993, his family established the High Hopes Fund to provide hope and encouragement to kids with diabetes while supporting research. The annual High Hopes Gala, held Nov. 19 at the Renaissance Boston Waterfront Hotel, continued the mission with a dinner and auction that drew 400 people and raised more than $1 million.
