Q: How many big shots does it take to fill up the ballroom of the Westin Copley Place?
A: Ask the folks at Mass Eye and Ear, who assembled a super high-octane crowd for the eighth annual Sense-ation! Gala.
Present and accounted for: Honorary chairs Joey McIntyre (sporting a seizure-inducing sequined jacket) and his spectacular wife, Barrett, with enough of his extended family to field a football team, NBA nabob Wyc Grousbeck and his raven-haired wife, Emilia Fazzalari, and kids, Kelsey and Campbell, car czar Herb Chambers, first lady Lauren Baker and the improbably tall Charlie, silver-haired emcee Billy Costa, red-headed siren Deb Goldberg and her investment guru husband, Michael Winter, the super stylish mother-daughter duo of Berneda Meeks and Laura Saltonstall, bosom buddies Pat Kreger and Helyn Oatis, fashionista-to-the-stars Elisha Daniels, the stunning Kelley Doyle, eye surgeon extraordinaire Jo-Ann Haney Tilton, the unfairly attractive Jacqueline and Nate Jowett, and one person who said, “The lighting in here makes me feel like I’m at SoulCycle.”
Dinner and a live auction were followed by a special musical performance from Clay Cook of the Zac Brown Band, who is a patient at the hospital and played a song he co-wrote with John Mayer when they were college roommates at Berklee.
The evening’s best exchange: Someone said to Grousbeck, “The Celtics season opener is tonight!” To which the owner replied, “It is. Which is why you may see me making strange faces at my phone.” ◆
