Drawing Boston’s elite to a warehouse at the Black Falcon Cruise Terminal in South Boston takes a bit of doing, but the 10th annual Beach Ball to benefit Camp Harbor View did the trick in a fairly major way.
Spotted in the high-wattage crowd: camp founder Jack Connors, construction mogul John Fish, anchor babe Lisa Hughes and her lovable other half, Mike Casey, reigning goofball Ryan McCourt and his long-suffering wife, Charity, brunette stunner Roberta Weiner and her real estate mack daddy, Steve, every liberal’s
girl crush, Elizabeth Warren, her senatorial colleague Ed Markey and his wife, Rear Adm. Susan Blumenthal, the impossibly glamorous Maggie Gold Seelig, restaurateur extraordinaire Steve DiFillippo and the gorgeous Pam, newly affianced media power couple Jenny Johnson and Rob Cocuzzo, uber-do-gooder Simone Winston and the handsome Ted, and one woman who said, “If I’d known there were gonna be hot single guys here, I would’ve done a bit more with my hair.”
The warehouse was astonishingly transformed into Studio 54 meets Beach Blanket Bingo. Dinner was delicious and a funk band lit up the dance floor, but the real action was outside by the bar. Overheard: “To quote Stevie Wonder, ‘I love you more today than yesterday.’ ”
“That might be true, but then again, we just met earlier today.”
Meanwhile, another guest who discovered a jar of bacon on the bar exclaimed, “Bacon is why God invented pigs!”
But the funniest remark came from Jack Connors, who recounted saying to one of the camp’s earliest supporters: “Did you ever think, in your wildest dreams, that all this would happen?” To which the answer was: “Jack, you were never in my wildest dreams.”
