Question: How many theater buffs can you fit into the Cyclorama? Answer: Enough to make the Spotlight Spectacular, the Huntington Theatre Company’s annual gala, a smashing success.
The cavernous space was transformed into a jewel-like cabaret reminiscent of Moulin Rouge, with lush colors and palm trees instead of flowers. The evening began with cocktails and chitchat and continued with dinner and performances, including an appearance by Tony Award winner and honoree Billy
Porter. Front and center: co-chairs Betsy and David Epstein and Sharon and Brad Malt, the ethereal Cecile Lemley and her husband, Fraser, retired doughnut mogul Bob Rosenberg and the flawless Mary Wolfson, the swanlike Gale Minot with her gorgeous daughter, Hilary Capato, Codman Academy head honcho Thabiti Brown, the ever-delightful Neal Balkowitsch and Donald Nelson, real estate mack daddy Danny Mullin and one woman who responded to a compliment on her spectacular necklace by saying, “Jewelry happens.”
The evening’s best remark: During the live auction, one of the prizes included 11 parking passes, prompting one of the guests to say, “Holy shit. That alone is worth a million dollars!”
