Sealed with a Kiss

Once upon a time, before the advent of sexting and emojis, romance was alive and well. Young lovers not only expressed sentiments of love and devotion to one another, but wrote them down—in full sentences, no less. You can hear some of those sweet nothings this Valentine’s Day, when the Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum presents Unconditional Love: The Letters of John & Abigail Adams, a performance that draws on the correspondence of the president and his wife of 54 years. To set the proper mood before the show, we tapped the Massachusetts Historical Society’s Adams archives, handpicked a few favorite lines and translated them into the textese favored by kids these days.

Unconditional Love: The Letters of John & Abigail Adams starts at 7 pm on Feb. 13-14 in Abigail’s Tea Room at the Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum, 306 Congress St., Boston (617-338-1773) bostonteapartyship.com. $35; $50 per couple
