The last weekend of August brings last gasps of summer before school starts – and some cool concert options. Pink Talking Fish — a jamband that covers Pink Floyd, Talking Heads and Phish — seems to hit town constantly, but bid a fond bon voyage to the season on Friday with a Rock On! Concert Cruise on Boston Harbor, joined by the Grateful tribute band Bearly Dead. And Texas guitar hero Gary Clark Jr. fuels Friday at the Hampton Beach Casino across the New Hampshire border in a special double bill graced by atmospheric blues-soul guitarist Michael Kiwanuka — before beloved Boston rockers Extreme reunite at the Casino on Saturday.

Rockport’s acoustically pristine Shalin Liu Performance Center has a wonderful weekend with Cajun progressives Beausoleil avec Michael Doucet on Friday and jazz sax star Joshua Redman with his dynamic quartet (featuring pianist Aaron Goldberg, bassist Reuben Rogers and drummer Marcus Gilmore) on Saturday. Sublime astral-Americana songbird Valerie June (pictured) also plays a free concert at Prescott Park in Portsmouth, N.H., on Saturday.

Sunday rocks with a classic triple bill at Mansfield’s Xfinity Center with Hall of Fame wizards Deep Purple, glammy shock-rocker Alice Cooper and the Edgar Winter Group. Blues guitar whiz Kenny Wayne Shepherd rocks the Cabot in Beverly and London prog-metal band Haken brings its eight-string guitars to Brighton Music Hall for a King Crimson-esque touch on Sunday as well.

Bonus: to squeeze in one more show before school kicks in, Monday offers a choice between punk-rock heroes Green Day at the Xfinity Center and the provocative Aussie talent Kirin J. Callanan at Great Scott. And New York’s record-breaking piano man Billy Joel hits Fenway Park for the fourth consecutive year on Wednesday.
