The weather change and the shows keep coming. Jose James brings his soulful, new-generational style to his celebration of Bill Withers on a great double bill with earthy jazz singer Lizz Wright (pictured) in a Celebrity Series concert at the Berklee Performance Center on Friday. There’s an odder pairing in the theatrically playful groove band Rubblebucket and the scrappy punk-pop outfit Diet Cig the same night at the Paradise Rock Club, but that’ll be a lively affair either way. So maybe Girls, Guns and Glory wasn’t the best band name for these times, but its resonant trad-country frontman mines similar territory with new outfit Ward Hayden & the Outliers at the City Winery on Friday. And free-flowing singer/rapper Cliff Notez (named best new local artist at the Boston Music Awards) starts his periodic Sketchbook residency at Atwood’s Tavern, tonight with Optic Bloom).

If you’re up to hit Harvard Square at noon on Saturday, drop into Club Passim to catch the great Erin McKeown make up for her weather cancellation last week. Saturday night brings big dates to town with the roots panorama of the Wood Brothers (featuring bassist Chris Wood from Medeski, Martin & Wood and his singer/songwriter sibling Oliver) at House of Blues and the hip-hop/blues of G. Love and Special Sauce at the Paradise. And Sunday caps off the weekend at Brighton Music Hall with emotive Pennsylvania indie-rocker Petal digging into emotions she’s faced with issues of depression, gender identity and adulthood. The same night also offers a solid bill in the Burren Backroom Series in Davis Square with Parlour Bells and Daylillies, a new band featuring singer Ad Frank and alumni from such other groups as Mistle Thrush, Reverse and Frank’s own Permafrost.
