The reviews are in. April release Foil Deer is an expertly crafted sophomore effort, supporting what the indie quartet’s critically lauded debut had major outlets proclaiming: This is a band to be reckoned with. Foil Deer simmers with sharp hooks and angular guitars, balanced by artful lyricism and frontwoman Sadie Dupuis’ warbling vocals—sweet with a poison edge. It’s helped Speedy Ortiz earn coveted slots at some of this summer’s big music fests, as well as a couple of dates opening for indie-rock titan Wilco’s 20th anniversary tour, which might be among the last times they’re billed as openers, if their current trajectory is any indication.
