2015 Winner: Ryan Landry’s Gold Dust Orphans

Fearless leader Ryan Landry received the 2015 Elliot Norton Prize for Sustained Excellence, an accolade that was a long time coming for the theater-scene fixture, whose troupe celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. Known for bawdy, gender-bending musical parodies of pop culture, the Gold Dust Orphans show no signs of slowing down—their latest production, Thoroughly Muslim Millie, is one of their best yet. Having premiered this spring in Boston and playing through the summer in Provincetown, the show kills off Julie Andrews with a drone, puts Dick Cheney in a wimple and hilariously tackles territory that a meeker troupe would be hesitant to touch.
