2016 Winner: Parla

The North End is beloved for its quaint Old World charm and 100-plus restaurants, so the dearth of skilled bartending is possible to forgive. Yet from a speakeasy-like perch on touristy Hanover Street, tiny Parla complements its modernist-leaning Italian small plates with terrific cocktails—in spite of the straitjacket of a cordials-only license. It offers proof that a gifted bar staff can still create delicious, well-balanced drinks from sweeter spirit bases like Crema de Mezcal and honey whiskey. Clever, that.
