Call it classical gone casual. This 3-year-old orchestra performs on the same level as the audience—in fact, a few lucky listeners get to sit right in the middle of the action. Themed programs mix eras and ensemble sizes; take spring concert “Home,” which showcased works by six composers who immigrated to the U.S., from Stravinsky and Bartok to 30-something Tehran-to- San Fran transplant Sahba Aminikia. The musicians chat about the selections before, during and after the performance, and there’s always a bar in the venue. Music to our ears.
