When Socrates Abreu opened the first Chilacates in a cramped JP storefront, it was a useful corrective to Boston’s onslaught of fancy faux-Mex places slinging $14 pastel cocktails and $9 tacos that nobody south of the border would recognize. Here and at his comfier second outlet on Centre Street, he trades flash for substance, filling (not overstuffing) beautiful tortillas with 10 simple and traditional fillings, to be dotted with two terrific fresh salsas, at common-man prices. It’s the real taco deal.
