VHS Collection

Old VHS tapes lying around their recording cabin in upstate New York may have inspired the band name, but VHS Collection’s sound is far from old-school. The New York-based electronic band puts a futuristic spin on classic rock in its debut album, Retrofuturism, which dropped in November. Longtime friends James Bohannon, Conor Cook and Nils Vanderlip—vocals, guitar and synth respectively—began uploading their homemade records onto SoundCloud in 2014. That same year, the band performed live sets in a string of New York’s Lower East Side rock clubs, later selling out several headline shows. Songs off their 2016 EP Stereo Hype were featured on dozens of TV shows including Shameless and Sunday Night Football. Hit play when VHS Collection drops by Sonia on March 21. / Celia Carbone
