The warmth of summer calls for alfresco dining, and a picnic requires no reservations. “Picnics are our jam,” says Sofi Madison, owner of two-year-old artisanal shop Olives and Grace, which moved in early May to a bigger location on Tremont Street, with more room for its small-batch foods and gifts—and an entire corner dedicated to spicy treats. “I’d say the most essential part is your company, then the location, then the snacks you bring and, finally, the weather,” Madison says. Here are her personal picks for a summer outing—just add a baguette and cheese.

Summer equals exposed skin to adorn. “Why not take it back old school and rock a temporary tattoo?” From wristwatches to cupcakes, “they’re all designed by artists in the U.S.”

“[These chips] come in a paper bag that perfectly serves two. The move, of course, is to toss a couple in your sandwich for the kick and the crunch.”

Madison suggests grabbing an extra blanket. “That way you can extend your adventure past sunset.”

This handmade Ambatalia towel doubles as a basket. “You can wrap up your picnic, lay it out on the grass as a table setting, then tie it up to carry your utensils and jars with you home.”
