Outdoorsy singles may want to swipe right on MeetMeOutside, a dating app launched this September by a trio of local entrepreneurs. Co-founder Rob Hand, a former Crossfit instructor who met his girlfriend while training for a Spartan Race, says he wanted to “create an alternative for people who have that interest and affinity for nature, the outdoors, fitness and active lifestyles, a way to date that’s a little less awkward than the traditional dinner and drinks.” Users add icons to their profile denoting their activities of choice, from running and biking to weightlifting and extreme sports; once two members match with each other, the app suggests nearby date activities that suit their mutual interests. The app is still in the beta phase, but MeetMeOutside is rolling out a new version just in time for Valentine’s Day, offering new features like the “MMO Power Bar,” which tells users how attractive their profiles are compared to others. “We hope that everybody will get outside and do an activity,” Hand says. “We feel like it’s a much easier way to bond with somebody.”
