The Asian American Civic Association celebrated its golden jubilee in fitting style with a gala of epic proportions held at the Boston Park Plaza.
After a cocktail reception with an impressive silent auction, the ballroom doors were rolled open to reveal a beautifully decorated venue. Taiko drummers ushered guests inside for dinner, and the speaking program was punctuated by dance performances that were worth the price of admission.
Present and accounted for: emcee Karen Holmes Ward, honorees Stanley Chen and Susan Schiro, Quincy minx Nina Liang, state Rep. Donald Wong, the puckish Michael
Kelley, State Street smoothie Gordon Bither, philanthropy bigwig Paul Grogan, affordable housing wizard Peter Madsen and his handsome other half, Tim Linehan, and one person who said, “Politics is for people who don’t mind drinking cold coffee out of a Styrofoam cup in a church basement.”
However, the evening’s best exchange came when one man said, “I want that guy’s cognac-colored shoes,” to which his friend responded, “Well, don’t try to take them off him. He looks a bit like Bruce Lee.”
