It was like Top Chef, Boston Edition, when Share Our Strength hosted the Harvest Dinner to benefit No Kid Hungry at the Boston Center for the Arts.
The event, emceed by TV glamazon Jenny Johnson (and three days before her wedding, no less), honored James Beard award-winner Tony Maws and Cooking Matters volunteer Sheila Berkus. The Cyclorama never looked better, decked out in elaborately set orange-and-white tables, while the cooking stations on the periphery of the room looked like the gleaming set of a brand new show on the Food Network. For the chefs involved, the evening is more fun than many food events because rather than churning out a single dish for grazing hordes, they get to create a multi-course menu for a table of 10, with whom they also get to interact.
Among the toques in attendance: Cultivar’s Mary Dumont, Benedetto’s Michael Pagliarini,
Townsman’s Matt Jennings, Bar Mezzana’s Colin Lynch and Outlook’s Tatiana Rosana. The lucky crew ingesting the fruits of their labor included Chestnut Hillions Nancy Adams and Scott Schoen, fashion plate Adele Chang and her handsome other half, Eddie Yoon, the startlingly gorgeous Stephanie Spector and her dashing dude, Brian, restaurateur Brian Lesser and his stunning wife, Jana, auto mogul Charles Ribakoff and the flawless Patty, the hale and hearty Frank Wisneski and event planner Lynn Dale, tech giant Niraj Shah and the lovely Jill, and so on and so forth.
The evening’s best exchange: “I’m only responsible for one husband per night.”
“Oh, well tell me when it’s mine so I can go out and get wasted.” ◆
