Echoes of ’90s grunge glory live on in the raw, vulnerable punk rock of Bully, the Nashville band fronted by Alicia Bognanno (pictured) that turns it up Friday at the Sinclair, while Ben Rector – also based in Nashville – spins his more streamlined tunes at House of Blues. But much of the weekend’s filled with grassroots festival action.

Bridging the punk and the psychedelic, Fuzzstival moves to Once in Somerville with a lineup that includes the Monsieurs, Corridor, Nice Guys and Leopard Print Taser. The New England Shake-Up revs up the rockabilly scene and beyond at the Sturbridge Host Hotel on Friday through Sunday with rockers that include Miss Mary & the Ragtime Wranglers, Daddy Long Legs and local favorites Barrence Whitfield, Jittery Jack and Diablogato. Here’s the sprawling Shake-Up rundown.

Columbus Avenue in Boston comes alive Saturday afternoon with the Berklee-sponsored Beantown Jazz Festival, which offers multiple stages featuring such talent as Jason Palmer, Tia Fuller, Catherine Russell and an experimental outfit with microtonal saxophonist Philipp Gerschlauer and guitarist David Fiuczynski that includes guest drummer Jack DeJohnette. Here’s the Beantown schedule. And on Sunday, Smoke This Rib Fest 2018 serves a delicious cut of local music at 622 Cambridge St, East Cambridge, with Vapors of Morphine, Mr. Airplane Man and the bluegrass gang of Sean Staples, Jimmy Ryan, Eric Royer and David Westner with guests Sarah Borges and Hazel Royer.

Sunday brings jazz guitar virtuoso Pat Metheny and his band to the Cabot in Beverly, while City Winery keeps busy between the female Americana-roots Red Molly in the main room while the Irish brother duo Hudson Taylor – stars back home in Dublin —  stir up the venue’s tiny Haymarket Lounge. Here’s my recent chat with Hudson Taylor, also opening for Hozier at House of Blues on Monday.
