Heavy-hitters Tool, Mumford & Sons and Chance the Rapper top the lineup for Boston Calling’s new festival location at the Harvard Athletic Complex in Allston on Memorial Day weekend.
Bon Iver, the xx, Solange, Weezer, the 1975, Sigur Ros, Major Lazer, Run the Jewels, Brandi Carlile, Tegan and Sara, Cage the Elephant, Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats, Mitski, Sylvan Esso and Car Seat Headrest also take the field among 45 acts performing on three stages, up from the two at Boston Calling’s former City Hall location. Local favorites will again be represented, with Buffalo Tom, Cousin Stizz, the Hotelier, Piebald and Vundabar. And in addition to the National guitarist Aaron Dessner’s music curation, the May 26-28 event will feature a film experience curated by actress/producer Natalie Portman. Early-bird tickets are now on sale at bostoncalling.com.
Boston Calling kicks off a promising summer for area festivals with Wilco’s Solid Sound returning to North Adams’ MASS MoCA on June 23-25, the Green River Festival just announcing Lake Street Dive and Joe Russo’s Almost Dead as the first acts confirmed for its July 14-16 event at Greenfield Community College, and the Newport Folk Festival holding court at Rhode Island’s Fort Adams State Park on July 28-30 (already sold out except for single-day Friday entry, though tickets remain for the three-day Newport Jazz Festival the following weekend).
