The concert slate’s not cooling down this weekend. If you’re not into watching Katy Perry romp and roar at TD Garden on Friday and Saturday, you might catch alto saxophonist Kenny Garrett – a spirited firebrand going back to his days with Miles Davis – at Scullers Jazz Club the same two nights. Or rock in the trenches with up-and-comers on the local psych-garage scene at Fuzzstival 2017, which continues Friday night at Somerville’s Once Ballroom and Saturday afternoon at the Somerville ARTFarm for Social Innovation with bands including Bat House, Mini Dresses, A Band Called E and Earthquake Party! Here’s the full Fuzzstival lineup. And local prog-rocker Lainey Schooltree and her band resurrect her ambitious rock opera Heterotopia at Oberon on Friday to celebrate its illustrated new companion book.

Saturday’s the peak night. The Cowboy Junkies’ atmospheric twang will resonate at Rockport’s acoustically pristine Shalin Liu Performance Center (before the band swings down to the new City Winery on Nov. 2). Other Saturday options include melancholic indie-rocker Torres (pictured) getting synth-steeped at the Sinclair, Australian solo phenomenon Tash Sultana rousing the Paradise Rock Club, and roots-rock veteran Phil Alvin returning to lead the Blasters at Once.

But don’t count out Sunday to welcome October with haunting electro-pop singer Zola Jesus at the ICA and the Corea/Gadd Band stoking its jazz fusion at Berklee. You can jump here to my recent interview with drumming icon Steve Gadd.
