Emerson prof Peter Flynn’s documentary about the soon-to-be-lost art of film projection is a eulogy, to be sure, but it’s also a celebration. The college’s senior scholar-in-residence and co-founder/former director of the Boston Irish Film Festival spoke to more than 30 projectionists from around the world—including staff from the Coolidge, Brattle and Somerville theaters—about a 120-year-old profession that’s rapidly disappearing in the digital age. Picked up by indie film distributor First Run Features, The Dying of the Light is a fascinating look at an endangered industry—and a reminder that local cinephiles are lucky to have passionate pros keeping the light burning.
