The late Lawrence-born composer and conductor Leonard Bernstein is getting quite the birthday bash—a centennial celebration that spans six continents. That includes lots of happenings in his native Bay State as Brandeis, Boston Ballet and a host of other arts groups join the party. The Boston Symphony Orchestra (with whom Bernstein performed more than 100 times) kicked off its season with an all-Bernstein gala program and an opening night featuring music from West Side Story, while Boston Lyric Opera staged his Trouble in Tahiti and Arias & Barcarolles at a North End ice rink in May. If you missed those, no worries—Bernstein’s work is being showcased all summer at Tanglewood, and other festivities continue through Aug. 25, 2019.
