Hakim Waters, the Boston painter and designer who adopted a nickname oft-given to Jean-Michel Basquiat, is known in the art world for his creative recontextualization of famous black figures, including Malcolm X, Barack Obama and the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. posed like Run DMC. But Black Picasso also embraces the commercial smarts of contemporary street artists, putting his work on custom jean jackets and other apparel so that we can all become walking works of art.
