Now-ubiquitous gourmet toasts have almost become self-parodying shorthand for “millennial taste buds.” But in Union Square at this lovely European-style cafe, you won’t find those #basic avocado-smeared jokes that are the epicurean equivalent of Ugg boots. Chef Joshua Lewin has toasts available, in some form or another, breakfast through dinner—and they’re vessels for serious food, like eggplant puree with Persian-spiced dried fruit and chickpea Basque piperade. They’re emblematic of Juliet: both youthful and refined.
